Like teeth the marshes clamp
around our ankles lines of blood,
ancestral mist; dogsteeth
unfurl like banner flags.

What passes through the vertebral foramen?
What passes through the transverse foramen?

This battered isle that keeps
Repeating scenes of static mist.
A kid holds out a sturdy bat
For you to wield, for you to take.

Part sound poem, part drone study, part formal exploration, Migration Patterns is a poem in two sections for two voices. A collaboration between Nick and poet Joe Turrent for the Enemies Project. Created by SJ Fowler, Enemies is the long-running series of contemporary poetry in collaboration. Fiender is Nick’s third inclusion in the Enemies series.
